100% HUMAN GRADE -
IT’S ON OUR LABEL
Because Pets Are Family
100% Human Grade
You may see brands that claim to have “Human Grade ingredients” or call themselves “Human Grade” on their website, but if you don’t see this on their label it may not been approved as such. Saying Human Grade Ingredients is not the same as being a 100% Human Grade or Human Grade Product. The latter requires the company to meet ALL of the same FDA requirements and standards found in human food (21 CFR part 117). To meet these high standards one has to document that every ingredient is fit for human consumption and is manufactured, handled, stored, and transported consistent with human edible foods, not animal feed. 99% of pet foods simply cannot meet this requirement.
REAL HUMAN FOOD, NOT ANIMAL FEED
Why it matters
Most pet foods are not classified as food but feed and can contain ingredients from animals that are dead, dying, diseased or disabled - the "4Ds." Human-grade foods contain no feed ingredients and are required to meet the highest standards for human food set by the US government.
is your pet eating "food" or "feed"?
This chart helps explain the different standards for feed versus Human Grade food. Just because an ingredient is allowed in feed does not mean that it is in all pet foods, but because feed companies don’t need to disclose this information, there really is no way for you to know. That is why we chose to adhere to Human Grade standards – so that you would always know what is in our food.

Fresh & Air-dried food is healthier
high temperatures,
Generally, the more you process food and expose it to high heat, the less nutritious it becomes. In fact, high heat (as used in highly processed kibble) has been shown to destroy key vitamins including vitamins A, E, and B group as well as essential amino acids, such as lysine.
carcinogenic by-products
Carcinogenic by-products may be linked to cancer and other diseases in people and in animals. As in people, highly processed foods may be contributing to the rise in obesity, diabetes, and allergies in animals.
Humankind is different. We start with delicious, fresh foods that are nutrient-dense and gently air-dried. The slow and gentle process of air-drying locks in the natural goodness of the food.
This is prepared in small batches at low temperatures, so every bite is packed with vitamins, amino acids, and nutrients. Your pet will smell and taste the difference.
Whole Food Nutrition
Whole Food Is Better Food
What your pet eats is just as important as what you eat for a healthy and happy life. By feeding pets whole food ingredients packed with nutrients, such as lean animal protein, vegetables, and fruit, you’ll increase their overall well-being.
What sets Humankind apart is that 99.9% of the nutrition is sourced from whole foods just as nature intended, rather than lots of supplements. Besides whole foods being easy to digest, research has shown that vitamins and minerals are more easily absorbed and include hundreds of carotenoids, flavonoids, minerals, and antioxidants that aren’t in most supplements. Our product label proudly displays a list of real, natural foods you know, not a long list of synthetic vitamins, minerals, additives and preservatives you don't know.
DOGS THRIVE ON A MORE NATURAL AND NATIVE DIET
Humankind provides a diet high in animal protein and closest to their natural environment. Most dry dog foods contain between 46% and 74% carbohydrates* – 4x the amount in a canine ancestral diet. Research suggests that ultra-processed high-carb foods contribute to health issues like obesity and diabetes. Humankind recipe contains higher levels of meat-based protein and lower levels of carbohydrates ( <14%) and starch (<5%) compared to most pet foods, which more closely mimics their natural environment.

USA and Sustainably Kind
21CFR part 117
21CFR Part 117 is an FDA regulation that requires that any manufacturer or producer of foods for human consumption adhere to a strict set of standards that cover manufacturing (Current Good Manufacturing Process), hazard controls, and risk-based preventative controls to reduce the likelihood that human food will be contaminated or adulterated at any point during the manufacturing and storage process.
All our ingredients are 100% human-grade, made in the USA, with more than 95% sourced from local USA farms. We do not source any ingredients from China. We prepare our food in FDA-certified facilities used to make human edible food.
